Seven papers on MOTS-c arrived this period, the largest cluster, and they span mice, rats and cells. Four looked at injury or stress in mice: muscle wasting from a tumour, lung damage from radiation, hearts exposed to high oxygen at birth, and an abdominal MRSA infection. Two used rats, one with diabetes and one with surgically created skin flaps, and one used mice with induced atrial fibrillation. The researchers measured things like muscle mass, inflammatory markers, heart rhythm inducibility and tissue survival, and compared treated animals against untreated ones.

The rat studies covered a lower-limb injury from restricted then restored blood flow, a cut and repaired Achilles tendon tested at four weeks, and rats with one adrenal gland removed.
