The study had two parts. In the first, 3T3-L1 preadipocytes, a lab cell line used to model fat cell formation, were triggered to differentiate and given KPV, then stained with Oil Red O and assayed for intracellular triglyceride, with expression of PPARγ and fatty acid synthase measured alongside. In the second, mice fed a high-fat diet were given KPV by mouth, and the researchers measured body weight, white adipose tissue mass, liver mass and plasma lipid levels including total cholesterol. The paper reports effects on adipocyte differentiation and on ROS-related AKT/mTORC1/PPARγ signalling in the cells.
