Poolton JT et al. · Acta orthopaedica Belgica ·
The authors searched four databases up to 1 June 2026 for any study of BPC-157 in people, for any reason. Three studies met the criteria, covering 30 participants in total: 16 people given injections of BPC-157 into the knee joint for knee pain, 12 given injections into the bladder for interstitial cystitis, and 2 given the compound into a vein in a safety pilot. All three were small and none had a control group. The paper reports that most participants in each study were described as having improved symptoms, with no side effects attributed to treatment. The authors rated all three studies as poor methodological quality and the overall certainty of the evidence as very low, citing risk of bias, indirectness and imprecision, and state that BPC-157 should not be used clinically in people outside regulated clinical trials.
