Thirty-two male rats had their Achilles tendons cut and stitched back together, then were split into four groups of eight. One group received BPC-157, one received TB-500, one received both, and one received no treatment, all by injection into the belly for four weeks. At the end, the researchers pulled on the tendons to measure the maximum force before tearing, and looked at tissue samples under a microscope to score the tendon structure and count collagen types, the fibres that give tendons strength. The paper reports that the TB-500 group's tendons took significantly more force before tearing than the untreated group, and that both TB-500 and the combination group showed better tissue scores, meaning more orderly collagen and fewer signs of degeneration. The BPC-157 group showed similar trends but the differences were not statistically significant, and giving both peptides together did not add any extra benefit over either alone.
